Agent-based Connguration of Virtual Enterprises

This paper presents an approach for supporting the connguration of Virtual Enterprises (VE) by holonic multiagent systems (H-MAS). At rst, we show that a VE can be naturally modeled as a H-MAS. Then, we take a closer look at two frameworks dealing with the systematic connguration of VEs. We will show that both frameworks are quasi identical and that in both decomposition , allocation and synthesis problems have to be solved. Therefore, we will present an agent-based approach for efciently dealing with the occurring problems. Its basic idea consists in modeling the whole VE as well as its constituting partner companies as compound holonic agents. Incentive-compatible auction protocols performed by agents are used to announce and allocate the partial processes of the global VE value chain to potential partner companies. The assembly of the partial processes allocated to different organizational units is alos guided by agent-based negotiation processes.
